They spend money on travel and just recently, homes. First few years after sale still lived in fairly modest cape cod. Friend DID have van professionally cleaned often but disgusting inside. She bought a ford SUV next. Her DH has a nicer sedan car but spent more on a custom made bicycle.

Wondering where this WASP myth that "actual" rich people drive old Volvos and Subarus comes from?Nearly every genuinely rich couple we know drives new, frequently traded in luxury cars and SUVs. New fully loaded Jeep Grand Cherokees, Tahoes and Yukons are also common. The cheapest cars would be like a new 2020 Mini Cooper and the new little Tesla Model 3. Literally nobody rich we know is daily driving some clunker. Is this myth just a coping technique by less affluent driving humble autos?

Sounds like hell on earth.

My mom drives some kind of Toyota. My dad drives a Ford Pick Up. They have a gorgeous home. They spend money on travel, clothes, jewelry, ....and they give a lot to charity. Vehicles aren’t important to them. I’ve noticed the same in their wealthy friends. Driving flashy cars is more of a new money thing.
