I once went to a private event at the top floor in the place where they have their Cathedral teas. That would seem to be an appropriate place for this event.

Episcopalians don't "consecrate" spaces with a splash of holy water the way Roman Catholics do. Besides Cathedrals have a long history of being community gathering places.
. I’m an Episcopalian priest. We do consecrate. Google episcopal consecrate

So, PP, could you please share your thoughts on the use of the Nave for this dance and other private events (like the lobbyist dinner with the full-blown bar set up in the Nave)? I'm not talking about lectures or musical performances.

You are wrong. OP is correct — The “Prom” is this Friday:

Yes, the Board of Trade event with the bar in the Nave was last year. Just an example if outside rentals in the Nave.

So this is the second year they are holding that Prom dance? I guess no one questioned it last year so they are holding it again.

The fact that you cannot see the difference between a highly-skilled artisan’s whimsical addition to a cathedral’s facade (which is questionable to some) and holding open bar events in the religious heart if the Cathedral makes me question your judgment. Granted, there will not alcohol served at this Orim thibh

I think it's sacrilegious but the Episcopal Church is dying and needs money to fix the cathedral.

In my mind a church as a "consecrated space" is a Catholic idea and has to do with the presence of the Eucharist in the tabernacle. If the Eucharist is not there, then it's just a room.

I think Protestants would say the cathedral is a space used for "worship and fellowship." Whether or not a prom is an activity worthy of the space is a reasonable question. But I bet it's a profitable activity and the cathedral needs money.

NP, most mainline Protestant churches also have consecrated and unconsecrated spaces.

The Cathedral has a complete top floor for social events/art exhibits.

Yep. But the dramatic nature of the nave is much more desirable. Better photo ops and much more profitable. That's most important!
