My husband does 99% of the driving and I'm OK with it. I hate driving at night because of an eyesight problem. My husband doesn't like to talk while driving so I play Words with Friends or send emails etc. He is a bored passenger because he can't read when a car is in motion (feels ill). On long trips I will do some of the driving so he can re-energize but it's mostly him and I'm fine with it.

I'm just not a fan of driving, especially around here. I've never been ticketed or in an accident (DH has done both), but I just don't like driving. I have very bad night vision and if it's raining at night? Forget it.

For awhile it was because we had a backwards facing car seat that was behind the passenger seat. DH couldn't physically fit anywhere but the driver's seat.
Now it's a bit of a habit. But I don't really mind. He prefers to drive and I don't feel that strongly about it, so I normally just let him drive by default.

Barring any of the above, it's a crap shoot.
And sometimes I get carsick, so I drive.

He drives at night. I have terrible night vision.

First, I don’t like driving all that much but DH doesn’t mind it. Second, it’s a personality issue not a gender one - he’s just a lousy passenger and annoys both of us.

My husband is a bit of a backseat driver and doesn't do well when I'm driving the car and makes me really nervous and also I don't mind zoning out on my phone when he's driving.

This. I suppose it is a bit silly but I guess both DH and I prefer it. If I wanted to drive and/or pay the check I would (and he’d be fine with that of course).
I think sometimes certain gender roles persist even in modern day- it’s silly and a bit old fashioned but if both are happy with it, it’s fine IMO.
Good question though!
agree-- plus, DH is a backseat driver (just an irritating aspect of his personality), so I just let him drive, otherwise we argue.

Because I don’t want to. I drive our kids too all activities, so when not comes time for us to do something as a family, I’d rather DH drives. On long car trips, we switch off.
