I agree we need to reopen mental institutions. This should not be a partisan issue. The reforms of the 80s were well intentioned, but were underfunded and went too far. We need a variety of support systems - from subsidized and lightly supervised to completely institutional settings.

K St was the only one cleared, not the L or M St at Metro. That said, there are still tents under K St, so unless the city is going to do daily enforcement, this is all much ado about nothing.

I vote for a designated camp ground for those who could go to shelters but just don't want to. Perhaps in one of the NE industrial zones along the rail heading out of the city. Maybe even go full on IDP (internally displaced persons) / refugee camp with provision of food and tents and a dedicated security and Red Cross or other NGO staff. And for those who are so mentally deteriorated (whether through addiction or illness) that they are a danger to themselves and others, I don't see any humane solution other than state-funded institutionalization.

Friday night I saw about 10 tents under the bridge at noma metro. They are back already.

How will they get around? BMW or Mercedes?

Don't be dense. Obviously they will get Tesla because of the environment. Also the self driving feature will be useful for when they pass out from drug/alcohol use. It is a win-win.

Now do 17th Street. There are TONS of resources in DC for the homeless. I’m absolutely not saying it’s a choice but I am saying that there are options.

If they see it, tell the person they haven 5 minutes to get moving then all the crap into the dumpster. Rinse and repeat. Word needs to get out that bums once doorways a on the streets aren’t allowed anymore.

Same for surrounding areas. I so with montgomery and other areas would round up the damn street corner bums.

It’s not a popular opinion but hey if the street bums were bussed in the middle of the night and left in some town in the middle of no place would be just fine.

Damn. Why not just take them on a bus and have the bus drive off a cliff with all the homeless in it, while you’re at it.

We should be helping these people, or tearing them down.

Why not use Obama’s 15 mil mansion and house some there? Build some smaller homes on the large property. He doesn’t need all that.

He didn’t build that house.

I'm pretty sure the streets around their house get cleared.

That's what Hillary had planned if she had won. But she didn't thank GOD.

Wanting people to die because they are sick and homeless is not what any good decent person would say.

We need to love take care of each other.

There's an excellent video on the subject. It's an hour long, and it's called "Seattle Is Dying". It's on YouTube.

+1. I worked in a mental institution for a few months. It actually wasn’t too bad, even on the locked ward. It was clean, the patients were getting their meds, and they had a reasonable amount of space to roam around. Liberals screwed up by shutting them down. Now homeless people are everywhere. I hate going to DC.

Liar. It was a Republican president who cleaned out ST Elizabeth a federal mental institution. The buildings set empty for decades. Mental institutions around the country followed the path of ST E’s, saving their government millions. ST E’s is now the home of Homeland Security, and the mentally ill of the DC metro area still roam free thanks to trickle down conservatives.

Start with reopening the mental hospitals and involuntarily admitting the mentally ill.

DC can do what then Mayor Guliani did for NYC, give them all one-way tickets back to NYC. Guliani sent a lot of New York’s homeless to DC and other cities.

I know the GOP is currently running away from Ronald Wilson Reagan’s legacy, but I did not know that y’all now consider the late POTUS a liberal. Interesting.
