OK smarty pants. How do you propose to bring more "diversity" to Whitman and Churchill, two clusters adjacent to three other clusters (Wootton, BCC, Walter Johnson) that allegedly also need more diversity. It's easy to see how you make those three more diverse without long bus commutes, because they border clusters of schools that tend to have at least somewhat higher FARMS rates. That's much less true of Whitman and Churchill. So let us know how you plan to redraw boundaries for Churchill and Whitman in a way that significantly improves diversity but does not require long bus commutes on the part of students coming in or out.

This particular thread seems to be one of the few with actually well though out points/arguments. Maybe that is because it states so many actual facts instead of all of the fear mongering on other threads. At any rate ....made me happy to see is all. The Wootton island is there because way back in the day when that high rise at Rio was the only residential development in the area and needed a school they sent it to Wootton. Not sure why exactly but at the time it did not include many students. That is obviously not the case any more. Again - another reason why this boundary study is so necessary.

That's the problem with the Western part of the county. There is no easy way to diversify Whitman and Churchill without really throwing geography out the window. I'm kind of curious to see how they handle this issue.

Build a new high school at the Brickyard Rd site. That would make a lot of boundary adjustments possible.
Until the boundaries are redrawn that make a bit more sense, we shouldn't build anymore schools. There are some schools that are currently under capacity. Let's fill those up before we build more.
Schools can’t all run at exactly 100% capacity. MCPS and state guidelines recommend 80-100% capacity as ideal. There are VERY few MCPS schools under 80% capacity. We do not have an equal number of empty seats and over-capacity/trailer seats. We do need to build. We have added a full HS worth of students county-wide each year for 10 of the last 11 years. We do need to build.
