OP, what happened to your DD?

Has she considered a career in medical illustration?

They are very clear that the UNweighted GPA needs to be at least 3.5. I doubt that someone with a weighted GPA of 3.6 is going to meet that threshold.

OP, she has no shot. Sure apply if she wants ---- along with many other options ---- she will need options

Admission Guidelines

Admission into the Honors College is competitive, and all applicants are expected to have challenged themselves in high school through their course selections. Students who do not meet these criteria but feel an exception should be made remain eligible to apply as other components of the application (extracurricular, honors, leadership, etc.) may offset the lower quantitative scores. The Honors College recommends the following admissions guidelines:

A combined SAT score of at least 1330 (both scores are only for mathematics and critical reading, not writing) OR an ACT composite score of at least 29
At least a 3.5 unweighted high school GPA (4.0 scale)

DD is interested in this program at VCU but is afraid that she will not qualify. 3.6 weigh GPA at Langley HS with 1510 on the SAT, and only a few AP classes. However, DD is very talented artist, has been interested in drawing and painting since the age of five. DD's art work has been on display at art galleries. One of DD's painting was sold for 40K and another painting was sold for 20K three months ago. DD wants to go into the BS/MD program and become an optometrist.
Does the school admission take those talents into consideration or is it just another ECs like marching band?

3.6 WGPA and 1510 SAT is fine to get into VCU but not sure if into the Honors College Guaranteed Admission Program; take relevant AP exams, CHEM, BIOL; IMO, the art talent will not help too much for the Honors College Guaranteed Admission Program for Medicine, academics come first at such level.

Newbie here - how have some of these kids taken 8-10 APs with scores by fall senior year?

Strivers with tiger parents.

Looks like there are some know nothings for parents on here with comments like "how do you know" and "strivers and tiger parents".

You find out from your college counselor in your high school what the most rigorous courses are offered by the school and start taking courses in sophomore year accordingly. I know some kids at UVA who entered with 16 APs. Another had 56 college (not AP, college) credits. But you don't start this at the begininng of fall senior year.

Right -so a sophomore could take 2 APs (WorldHist and Mac/Micro) and could take a 3rd possibly? if they take PE the summer before sophomore year. Some of these kids had AP Calc AB and BC. I'm assuming they could take 7 more APs junior year and maybe sit for the AP Calc AB while taking the BC course and end up with 10-11 by the end of junior year.
