Montgomery County is precisely the liberal swamp that working class Trump voters repudiated in 2016.
I would argue that specifically MoCo is the worst of the worse when it comes to liberal hypocrisy, elitism, SJW nonsense and white-people socialism. A fictional caricature of elite liberal bubbles could not be conceived. The Democratic Party used to be the party of working people and the middle class. Not all that long ago in my lifetime, West Virginia was a Democratic stronghold. Pennsylvania and Wisconsin have been Democratic states turned Red, because nowadays, when people think of deep-blue, Democratic areas, they don't think of blue-collar, salt-of-the-earth people in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, they think of coastal elites, and Montgomery County checks ALL of the boxes in terms of what Middle America hates.
MoCo is full of government workers who benefit from increasing the size of government.
MoCo is the epitome of all the most loathsome aspects of liberal elitism, it could be a parody of itself: Whole Foods and Prius drivers everywhere, feel-good "environmental" policies like banning straws and styrofoam, liberal political yard signs and bumper stickers galore, everyone listens to NPR and Rachel Maddow, people who look down on you for disagreeing with them and having complete disdain for Middle America. You may deny it, but I hear those kinds of remarks about "those people" every day. From people who probably never even interact with the kinds of people they claim to be superior to.
MoCo's government is a joke. They spend a lot of time and money patting themselves on the back for grand accomplishments like this-or-that racial equity and social justice legislation that means nothing, nothing at all. And they are so proud of themselves when they do it. It would be one thing if they were actually passing legislation that improved the lives of their constituents, but it's all symbolic nonsense...from Nancy Navarro's social justice virtue signaling to Evan Glass and his LGBTQ equity to Hans Riemer and his police accountability racial equity whatever-it-is... all so vague because nobody has determined what "equity" in any case even means. And then you have Marc Elrich with his stick-it-to-the-man on everything, being anti-ICE, anti-police, anti-development, anti-capitalist, anti-basically everything except unions, SJWs, and "neighbors" (read: NIMBYs.).
MoCo's people are hypocrites. The loudest voices are either rich people who claim to love the poor but don't want to live near them (liberal NIMBYs) or rich people who claim to love the poor but only when they can benefit from up-zoning and get rich off development (urbanist hipsters who say they want more "affordable housing" but actually just want to make money off their own house-flipping). They claim to love the environment but drive around in their own coal plant-powered electric vehicles...they aren't the people who have to rely on bus transit. They vote for white people who claim to know what's best for black and brown people and celebrate "diversity" only in looks, not in thought.
MoCo is worse than places like San Francisco, because at least the Leftist Coast has tech innovations to justify its elitism. They at least created something and earned something. Even Virginia can owe some of its economic elitism to business growth. Montgomery County leftists built nothing, innovated nothing, created nothing. It is 100% a Swamp town, and in the minds of Trump country, it shouldn't exist.
The only good part is that Montgomery County is on the decline and it is showing how leftism fails. Schools are declining, businesses are leaving, revenue is dropping because the people who contribute to the tax base are fed up with taxes and traffic. Pretty soon, all that Montgomery will offer its residents is taxes and traffic. And oh yeah, "social justice."
The rest of America looks at MoCo and sees this is what Democrats want to be. The country would be like this if the Democratic machine controlled the country in a one-party state. The rest of America looks at this and says, no thanks, I'll vote for Trump instead.
We are seeing this play out right now in MCPS. People who want to advocate for 'diversity' as long as their kids don't have to go to school with the 'diverse' kids. LOL
