+1, my husband's ex gets life long alimony. She cheated and they were only married 10 years and divorced before age 30. How is that ok?
Oh wow, I most definitely call BS.
Alimony in perpetuity nowadays has to have VERY extenuating circumstances.
They were only married 10 years and she gets alimony in perpetuity???
What exactly was the basis for this?
I'm dying to hear this.
No idea.. he got screwed over. Its part of his military pension so he cannot fight it even though she was only with him the 10 years not 20 he was in.
Pension is not alimony.
Correct but she also alimony for 10 years.

What was the case law to support this decision?
What state was this in?
Where in God's name can you be married for 10 years, then cheat (which is irrelevant, as courts don't care about infidelity) and then get alimony for 20, 30 or even 40 years longer than the couple was married?
Actually the courts do care sometimes - in VA, a cheating party (with proof of adultery) is precluded from receiving spousal support.
Courts don't care if women cheat. They still get custody and child support/alimony.

I absolutely loved this piece (as well as her dress and shoes): "That’s why I always recommend that people leave while there’s still an ounce of kindness for the other person. Do you really want to pay me $550 an hour to tell you not to write, ‘Dear Skank,’ to the mother of your children?”

it was never fair, ...also 100 years ago women did not have work opportunities and had just earned the right to vote.
It’s always fair for a spouse who hobbled their own earning potential to raise a family. If you don’t like it, support your spouse’s career.
Own your decision
Exactly, own your decision to exploit your spouse’s labor in their prime career-building years.

You can choose to work AND have a family.
I’m PP and I do! And it means my husband has to actually engage with the household! He hates it. He’d be way happier and able to focus on his job (biglaw) if I stayed home.
