Yes, but attempting to screen out people with the "wrong" background by means of careful phrases in an online dating profile is also stupid.
Not really. Those apps can be a huge time suck and time is money, baby. No different than using proxies (typos, schools, gaps, key words etc.) to screen a resume. Yeah, you may miss some good people, but who has time for a close and fulsome analysis of every candidate.
Yes, it is stupid. Especially if you are a woman. No matter what you say, a bazillion guys are going to try to convince you to meet them in person anyway. If you want to meet a quality person, you will have to meet them and assess them over time. There are no shortcuts.

First, it’s not about who dies with the most money. Christ, women are obsessed with the guy’s money.
Second, men don’t care about a woman’s resume as much as you care. What matters is who she is here and now.
Not true, as much as you wish to to be. When you go to bank for a loan is this what you tell them instead of looking at the credit history?
WTF are you babbling about? No, I didn’t do a background check on my wife.

No your background doesn’t matter, but any current, present-day bad behavior, such as your contempt for people with the “wrong” background, marks you as bad company.
