Yes, it is stupid. Especially if you are a woman. No matter what you say, a bazillion guys are going to try to convince you to meet them in person anyway. If you want to meet a quality person, you will have to meet them and assess them over time. There are no shortcuts.
It's called screening mechanism for a reason. It's a way to exclude, not a guarantee of quality. Stop being daft.

My friend used to describe as 'be a self sufficient adult'. I don't need your money to get by, you don't need mine, but combined we could be comfortable and have flexibility to travel and stuff.
