Are you Russian? If so, you have to know that those names are really common and no one would associate them with the Chairman of the KGB (Ivan, Aleksandr, Pyotr, Vladimir, Yuri, Vitaliy, Viktor, Leonid, Vadim).

If you're talking about Felix Dzerzhinsky, he was head of the Cheka, not the KGB, and it's a common name.

I love this Russophile post. Good catch on the Cheka.

Nope. I did use it for a baby I miscarried though. I got the name out of my system, but didn’t offend anyone. That child doesn’t have to attend middle school, which to me is the biggest reason not to use an infamous name.

Was it a problem for your dad, then? You should have persona experience with this issue that can tell you how much of a problem it will be.

I assume the baby will have a different last name (the baby’s Dad’s name).

Sorry OP, I am an idiot today for some reason. I just am having a hard time thinking of any really awful Roberts that would make me avoid a name right now. Maybe after more coffee.

OP's last name is Lee?

Or Mugabe...

I have literally never heard someone refer to Bob E. Lee, or Bob Mugabe, so I am guessing it's neither of those. I think Kerrey is a good guess.

Bob Kerrey is a Medal of Honor winner, so no, not a war criminal.

If it's Robert Chambers, I wouldn't.

We need more information. This is a case by case situation. Sorry OP but you'll need to tell us the name.

At the very least it could allow your son a bit of anonymity. When people try to google your son, they'll come up with this other Robert Bales.

Her dad wouldn't have the same last name as her husband. I mean, unless they're in Kentucky.
