We are at an MCPS ES in Silver Spring that has banned Halloween. It’s a super diverse school and they didn’t want students to feel left out.
No celebration of Halloween at school. Teachers are not allowed to read books about Halloween. No parade. No costumes.
I agree that it’s a bummer because Halloween is kind of a fun day and they should just let the kids who don’t want to participate hang out in the Media Center or something.
This is dumb - so glad I don't live in MoCo. I mean, it's just Halloween. I can understand why there's not a Christmas celebration, but Halloween? Is it really a "celebration" of anything? Admittedly, it's not well-known in other parts of the world, but neither is Thanksgiving (with all due respect to Canada).

Halloween is All Hallow's Eve, otherwise known as the night before All Saints' Day. So, Halloween has roots in Catholic culture. We Catholics are more than happy to see everyone enjoying it. Many Evangelicals do not celebrate Halloween because they see it as something pagan.

The above is true but Catholics like any excuse to have fun and party.
Catholics are also really happy to incorporate and adapt pagan rituals. That’s how we got basically all our parties and rituals, except the ones we took from the Jews. It’s called Syncretism and it’s one of my favorite things about being Catholic....your people has a cool custom or fun party? You don’t hs e to give it up to convert! We’ll just sub in our saints for your spirits, our Mother of God for your Nature Mother! It’s like a giant religious melting pot. It’s the kimchi tacos version of religious practice.
