middle school age kids are in fact kids. Not 18, 19, etc... living off at college or on their own. They live in a house someone else pays for with internet access given as a parent sees fit.

I've been following this thread because my kids are at Hoover, nearby. So this may not be the same as at CJ, but at Hoover, vaping (I think vaping weed) gets a 3 day suspension. DC has told me of a few kids caught for this, and swears it is weed and not nicotine) and each time has been 3 day suspension. (At which point, they seem to come back and do it again.)

PP here. They do go after vaping. There are almost 100 cameras in the school. None in the bathrooms though, which is where most vaping occurs.

They didn’t say what actually happened and I assume they can’t for confidentiality reasons. But if you have a kid at that school, your kid knows who it was and what they did.
They did say it’s the only incident of the kind they’ve had like this. There have been two fist fights at school this year. No other significant incidents to report.
They went over what kids are hearing and seeing online. Particularly chat platforms like Discord and Twitch. Many white supremacists are trying to indoctrinate kids early. So pay attention to what your kids are doing online.
according to my kid, the kid who posted has not been back in school. And I am under the impression the parents are getting him help. Most of his social media accounts are gone, other than one finsta I see. Perhaps his parents don’t know to look for those.
They also said anything illegal posted online, even if during non school hours, can be disciplined at school because it can affect the CJMS community. They specifically mentioned pictures of kids vaping.
The principal talked about the disciplinary process.
Slightly OT, but if they plan to go after pictures of kids vaping, will they also go after kids who vape AT school? Or on school grounds?
Any word on what kind of consequences will be implemented for kids who vape at school.
(Only asking because you mention that they can go after social media posts about kids vaping, but I think going after the actual kids who do vape would be helpful!)

I don't know this school or what happened but most schools have threat prevention methodology now so they follow the same protocol every time a student makes a threat. The bar is very low for what is deemed credible, and most schools have resource officers who are cops, so it's not like they're dialing 911. It's an officer assigned to the school that they are in contact with.

Cabin John has always had issues with their counseling department. They have always been bad at their jobs and the school is run by the parents, always has been. DC needs to move to another class to be with best friends oh sure absolutely. UGH..
