I’ve heard great things, but being 800+ pages, is it drawn out and boring?

NP, but no! It's so good!

So, so good. It’s on my “occasional re-read” list. But yes, a departure from the typical.

I have tried with this one and just...can't.

Listen to the audio book. It will suck you in!

One I liked a lot and don’t see mentioned here is Joyland. 11/22/63 is amazing and deserves another mention as well.

I own & have read all of his works, and my personal favorite is Insomnia.

Totally agree. My 14 year old son just read it, too.

His short stories are amazing. Hearts in Atlantis was really good too.

YES. Masterful at scaring the crap out of you in 15 pages.

He’s a much better short story writer than a novelist, I think, and IMO horror works better in that format anyway. Some of his novels are quite good, but others get out-of-control or way too bloated. I’m looking at you, The Stand (which King re-wrote to make it even more bloated; if he’d cut about 150 pages out of the original instead it would have been tight and much better I think.).

He might even be better writing nonfiction, On Writing is quality work, and he’s got a non-fiction piece about little league baseball in one of his collections that is just superb.

Salem's Lot and Skeleton Crew are my two favorites. If you're a writer, his book "On Writing" is wonderful.
