This is exactly what I would say.
@ time of our relationship/his affair I was single & he was married. I broke it off when I met DH. He tried to tell me that we should keep it going. That we would both have marriages & each other. I should have listened to him. Now I’m 8 years int a nice guy/boring marriage and wish I’d kept the AP around. We had great sex, great conversation, and a natural fondness for each other.

Spouse cheated well before I ever did, several times. The AP who died got hooked on painkillers many years after our fling. And all addicts aren’t promiscuous, that’s for the movies. Some are functional, but deal with demons or (as in AP’s case) gets a bad batch of the vice.

We ( AP and I ) knew each other in high school. Was a nostalgic thing at the time that brought comfort to us both at the time. I don’t regret the fling with the AP one bit. My ex on the other hand....
