Subject: What to have nanny do after DD starts preschool
I know families whose nannies do laundry, occasional grocery runs/ errands and cooking duties when kids are in preschool. It's usually discussed up front when signing the contract. In your case, since you have a change in child care duties, it's worth having the conversation with your nanny, but be reasonable in your expectations.

I’ve been with my family for 10+ years. I do grocery shopping and surprise home repair workers. I do not do any type of cleaning- I am a nanny, not a housekeeper. My bosses continue to pay me while the kids are in school full days for the convenience of having me on call for sick days, off school days, when someone forgets their lunch etc. My job is unique though as my bosses are both high level VOs and need childcare.
Translation - I sit around on my phone most of the day and expect to be paid for it.

I’m sorry you’re jealous of my position. Over a decade of loyalty and reliability has afforded me a cushy job now that the kids are in school. Yes my job is super easy now and I’ve earned it after working 60+ hour weeks for many years.
WTF you used to look after the kids for 60+ hours? Where were the parents, at work all the time? How sad for those kids

It’s called a job and a commute? When my bosses are home they are completely involved and devoted. Instead of the kids sitting on iPads all weekend, they’re out making memories as a family. Yes during the week they work long hours but that is life and they are wonderful people. They are the best parents I’ve ever worked for, and I’ve been a nanny for 30 years.
