I get to safety when I see Black teens in DC together. Did you see the girl who took the wallet?
I would look more at their demeanor and other contextual cues, and less at the color of their skin.
We are a well-educated AA family in NW DC, young kids full pay in private, etc. Will you run from our kids in a few years if they walk around with another black friend or two?
If they are 13-14 and out at 1am and in a group of 10, well, yeah, probably. Loud and raucous--definitely. But that goes to demeanor and context, no?

What if they're only 13/14 as reported? I'm more angry at the parents that would let their young teens roam the streets at 1am. But I'm assuming the parents of these particular kids have their own issues.

Yes, if only all potential victims would just arm themselves, this world would be a much safer place.

NP. No need to be dramatic. But PP is right - one of these days, these punks are going to go after the wrong person. It would actually be refreshing if that happened because that might be the most effective deterrent.
Kids get involved in violence because they have no hope. Shooting a few of them is not going to deter jack shit. You need to show compassion. Violence begets more violence.

So crazy how quickly is escalated. The group was stalking these two men.
why haven’t the victim or witnesses stated? this
They are probably scared for their lives, maybe the man is still in the hospital and recovering from horrific injuries.
Also you can see that the brown male who manages to escape from the mob is recording them with his cell phone. He does this while trapped in the rotating door and continues to record their faces when he comes out. I guarantee that the cops have more footage they have not released yet. These are likely minors, so perhaps that's why they have not released the clearer footage yet.
It happened earlier this month. He is out of the hospital. "The man suffered head injuries and a left eye socket injury. The witness suffered a swollen left eye. They were treated at a local hospital."

The ones who "can't be deterred" are the ones who most need to be shot.
I reserve my compassion for the victims of crime, not for the criminals, who deserve only swift and decisive justice.
I agree what happened to this guy is absolutely horrible--but just wanted to point out that for many of these kids, they are both victims and perpetrators. That's what happens in many rough neighborhoods around DC--lots of trauma in this population.
