Well...we got divorced. LOL. I wouldn't suggest that as a strategy, but it definitely helped my ex cope with parenting a bit better now that there are "days off."
For me...It was hard in the beginning when she was small. She's almost ten now and a lot of it is autonomous. For example, she wakes up before me and can make herself some toast or eat some yogurt until I get up. She does her own laundry, washes dishes, takes out trash. I feel like I have more help around the house now than when I was married.

My family is all dead. No Grandma, Uncle or anyone. We just make do. I have friends but they all have kids too and I do not want to add stress to them. When my kids are gone away to college, then I will have time if I am still living.

OP are you willing to take care of someone else’s kids in the evenings or on weekends, in addition to your own? Whose support network are you? Or is it a one way street, me-me-me?

We have friends but not the sort we could leave our kids with.
We left DC for a low cost of living area.
We purchase our support network: nanny, babysitters, cleaners, lawn service, etc.

OP do you mean friends who live close by? Our best friends don't live near us, so we get support from them by talking on the phone, texting, etc. And then we visit and have them visit us.
Our family isn't local but we plan visits to them and have them visit us - take a night out with your in-laws come to stay with you, or when you go visit them.
Otherwise, we hire people. When there's a will, there's a way...
