I don't care what it screams. I had a VW convertible until my 2nd child was born and cried when I had to sell it to get a family car. Fast forward 25 years and my SUV was stolen and I thought what the heck - I love my little EOS and if it says I raised my kids and I'm done so be it.

I *loved* my little convertible with a hardtop that automatically went into the trunk with a push of a button, but that was when I lived in CA. I would not get it here. DH thinks I should get another one when the kids leave, but I wouldn't want one here in DC. I got a new car with a huge moon roof that slides all the way back to the backseat area. Not quite the same, but I like the openness without the mugginess.

I live in a condo, and park in a lot so it’s uncovered. I figure I’ll worry about the rest if/when it happens. Mine is 3 yrs old and looks new still.

Anonymous wrote:Excellent, OP! I'm the California PP with the BMW 4 series hardtop. I also loved the Audi (but as I mentioned I wanted a hard top and 4 seats so I had no options.)

To the nay-sayers, I've also had three Miatas, back in the old days, pre-kids. I had one in Boston, and parked on the street in the Back Bay on Commonwealth Ave. for years. I remember driving with the top down and it starting to snow--what a treat! That car is still living, zipping around in NH now.

So imo having a convertible in DC weather is totally doable. The only thing I would say is because DC is swampy weather so there is often freeze/thaw/freeze---meaning potentially icy on the roads, I'd get an AWD or front wheel drive. My Miata would fishtail a bit under certain conditions. Luckily Boston tended to stay cold or warm, so I didn't have the ice issue.

OP here— my Audi Quattro has AWD, so it’s perfect! ... ?

I don’t drive it on the highway w/ the top down unless it’s stop and go traffic. I go to concerts all the time and have earplugs already.

I am on here to write convertible scream “mid life crisis”, but if you’re open that you’re celebrating mid life crisis with a convertible, heck, go for it!
