We are the same size - couple with dog and now 1 kid. About to move out of (1250 sq ft) townhouse for more space. The amount of space was actually fine until spouse got more into his hobby and wanted a dedicated room for it.

I wouldn't sweat it if I were you. You can re-evaluate after kid is here or if other things change for your family.

You guys must have a clutter problem. Marie Kondo that place!

We are a family of 3 in 2500 sq ft and its more than enough - we already don't use a couple of the rooms.

Do you plan on having more children?

We will move when kid goes to college.

Same here: 4 BR, 3300 SF including finished basement. 3 + dog.

It sounds like a lot, but we're minor hoarders. We do use the whole house though. The basement is 1/3 of the space and it's a rec room for kid, dog and friends to play. Small yard too.

We have the same square footage plus a finished basement. We moved from a 800 square foot condo, so the house feels like a palace.

1700 but a great layout. We previously lived in a 2200 sq ft home that felt much more cramped.

2400. In process of downsizing back down to a condo. We don’t enjoy having a house to care for and a yard to manage. Condo living is so much easier. Just depends on your preferred lifestyle.

I like the auto correct of ft to fat.

2000 sq. ft. with 1000 sq. ft. unfinished basement and 500 sq. ft. garage / outbuilding. 1920s four square.

Definitely about layout more than just size.

Our house was PERFECT for us as a couple, but with a kid, there are things I’d change.

We only have one living space. Would LOVE a finished basement or even something like a sun room off the kitchen.
We technically have 4 bedrooms, but it’s more like 2–one is an office (we WAH) and another is a closet because we have no closets.
Our kitchen is not eat-in, and has no bar. We have to carry everything into the dining room to eat. Not always practical.

But we have gorgeous details, high ceilings, large covered porches, lots of separation when needed, and plenty of storage between basement/garage/attic. But I’d totally trade my attic for some freaking closets or a pantry.

+1 Depends what you're used to. I grew up in a house of 1200 square feet with 4 other people, then shared rooms in college and lived in NYC for a long time. My conception of space is very different from other suburban moms my age.
