I have to hand it to her: It's all of DCUM versus BKL and she still thinks she's right.

However, she now claims she keeps a "well-stocked fruit bowl." That's a step up from the holidays, when it was NOTHING for her poor, hungry guests.

I decorate the breakfast bar with greenery and a nativity scene during the Christmas holiday, so the fruit bowl is put away and not available at that time of the year. If my guests must eat in between meals, they can go to the gas station or Burger King but my kitchen is closed until the next planned meal. I do not want to spend my entire day cleaning up crumbs and spills. No thank you.

The rest of the year, I do have a lovely, well stocked fruit bowl available. Guests are welcome to take a piece of fruit and snack on it outside. They do not need to enter the kitchen at all to take a piece of fruit.

I can't tell if this is serious or is supposed to be as funny as it is. Either way, welcome to dcumland!

HAHAHA! I'm glad you're posting freely and haven't been consigned to the insane asylum quite yet, crazypants. God Bless.

Anyway, you're still wrong, and you're still a horrible hostess. But I'm kind of glad you're still doing your thing. Because if you caved and let your guests actually manage their own stomachs, health and happiness, it would be like Atlas setting down the globe.

Young kids can’t go from 7 am until 4 pm! Do you have little kids? I’m not for the snacking all the time but this is crazy.

This is why there is a serious obesity epidemic. Young children do not need to eat greasy convenience food. If they are hungry between meals they should get an apple out of the fruit bowl, sit on the front doorstep and have a nice, healthy, nutritious snack. They do not need a bacon, nacho cheese, funion burger.

Do you seriously think small children should go from 7AM to 4PM with only an apple in between? Do you not feed your children lunch?

If I am serving a late lunch/early dinner bbq at 4pm, I would not expect to have a pre-lunch/dinner meal especially if I had just eaten a big bowl of cereal that morning. If you really must eat, a delicious piece of fruit should be enough to sustain them until the bbq starts. I always keep a well stocked fruit bowl on the breakfast bar - you don't need to enter the kitchen - just grab an apple, banana, orange or pear, go sit outside in the fresh air and enjoy!

The 4th of July bbq spread is a much heavier meal than one would usually eat. I can't imagine eating a big, salty, heavily processed turkey sandwich from Panera only to turn right around and eat bbq just a few hours later.

You are a loon.

+1
Also Panera sandwiches aren’t big.

^ What if I wanted to eat a cucumber? Or a yogurt cup? Would you approve?

The reason people are so appalled with the notion of a “closed kitchen” is because it’s insane to think that hosting gives you the right to decide how many bites of food grown adults are allowed to eat. It’s not about the actual food, it’s the principle. This is the equivalent of announcing nobody is allowed to use the bathrooms between 7am and 7pm because you don’t want to deal with smells or whatever else.

It’s the obsession with the minutiae of other people’s lives that is bizarre and crazy.

OMG, I recognize you. You're the one who opens her kitchen once a day and believes that people shouldn't be hungry because you fed them a "delicious" meal 10 hours ago.

It’s Burger King Lady!!!!

Guys! It’s Christmas Burger King Lady !!!

I thought so too.

Closing the kitchen is just stupid.

A closed kitchen means NO FRUIT BOWL. Do you get it?

You have food issues. Please don’t pass them onto your kids. Eat normal portions and don’t gorge on dinner.

Okay first, you are claiming it’s ok to eat from the breakfast bar but not the kitchen. Second, most kids don’t eat like this. They eat regular amounts at set times and don’t want to skip a meal and then gorge later. That’s not how small kids operate. 12 year old - maybe. Toddler - no.

My parents are the opposite. They do the big party meals at 9 pm. So we feed the kids a light dinner at 6 and then they eat like 2 bites at 9 and go to bed exhausted. My parents get mad but I told them they can have their schedule however they like and we will deal with it as we need to. Or they can move dinner to 7 and the kids can fully partake. They chose to do it late so we do what we need to. Kids are 2 and 4.
