How are people on low carbs losing fat without counting calories?
Because when you cut carbs you tend to also cut a lot of calories. Eat fewer calories = create calorie deficit = fat loss. It’s very easy to overeat carbs and lots of junky snack foods are carbs. You also lose some water weight initially by depleting glycogen. But there is nothing about low carb that changes how your body uses energy. If I ate 4000 calories a day of pure fat, protein and some veggies, I’d be low carb but gain weight.
