NP: Go to Nordstrom and get a personal shopper to help you. It's a big enough store that they'll have fashionable and edgy, and once you know the styles and brands that work for you, you'll be set.

This is very true. It also depends on the industry you're in. My friend works in PR and dresses what I think of as very provocatively. I work in investment banking specializing in M&A of government contractors. Hoo-boy. You put I-banking and government together, and you have a LOT of blue, gray and black suits. I buy Theory suits at Nordstrom Rack or wait until the after holiday sales at Saks and Neiman's. I always get them tailored to my body and I look very put together.

Women get mad they are judged on looks but then obsess about it.
The reality is that research shows that women who spend more time on grooming and appearance are paid more. While this occurs for men as well, it is stronger for women.
Please educate yourself before making ill-informed and unhelpful posts.
OP asked one question and clearly does not obsess about looks, or she would not have this problem.

I think how you conduct yourself is more important. Be neat, clean, with nothing too tight, too low-cut, or too short.

People think I am Ivy educated and rich (these couldn’t be farther from the truth). I wear a ton of J Crew, Everlane, Cuyana, and Old Navy. Always loafers or oxfords shoes (leather). Basically, I keep it simple. I wear natural look makeup. I have never had a blowout. I have a simple haircut (shoulder length bob) but my hair is straight. High end and professional comes in many forms (shapes, sizes, and colors).

1) Blown out/neat, shiny hair (flattering haircut for face works best) (don't let grays overtake your colored hair if you have grays)
