I called her for a link, and the person who told me about the petition back-peddled and said she was exaggerating, but to prove her point of how absolutely horrid she found this other mom's tattoo, I guess. I dunno. She's kind of a wack-job. I still don't think I feel like the tattoo is appropriation?
The African chicken one y'all are talking about? I don't know. Appropriation means like to get some benefit out of another country's culture, where they could have but you took it, no? Like when you make headdresses instead of buying them from natives? Well...nevermind, because dreadlocks. I am rambling. I just feel really uninformed on this and I don't quite understand, and there does not seem to be a clear answer.
I apologize for the confusion and for y'all thinking I was a troll. I'm not. Apparently my PTA friend was exaggerating though, but she did say she wishes she could make a petition for this
But if you knew why a sankofa bird tattoo isn’t cultural appropriation, why would you even come here to ask about the other tattoo? Just admit you were hoping for racist drama. Sorry, not sorry that DCUM disappointed you.

OP here, not a troll. I'm honestly concerned. The moms who are sending the petition are UMC, and white for the most part. I think one is Indian and one may be half Asian.
It never occurred to me that this was a problem. I get sugar skulls / Japanese symbols / etc. but this is a poem, no? I am happy to be taught

Ask someone of the race that is being "appropriated." Use their opinion as your new litmus test. However, the chances are that you don't know anyone of the race that is being appropriated. If that is the case, stop and let it go.
I thought you weren't supposed to ask a member of an ethnic group to represent their entire group ????![]()
No one owns ideas or art or items of clothing or types of food or musical notes or dance steps. Everything can be traced to multiple groups.
