In one of the many ways dcurbanmom is a behavioral anomaly of this city (whiter, crazier) you can't even read the room that MOST people in this town like the Ds and want them to be "left". You actually think any of us want a Republican run anything? That is pathetic. Seriously.

The issue here is corruption, it isn't about ideology. Your beloved Republicans start out as corrupt. We are swimming in examples of their corruption as a nation every day. I'm really sorry you can't figure this out.....

What? The last R council candidate was a Koch employee.

The Republicans in DC are far more insane than the Republicans in other cities.
In Boston, Chicago, New York, the Republican candidates are just standard-issue Republicans: unaware theyre being screwed by billionaires, worried only about lower taxes for them. In a word: selfish.

Republicans in DC are far worse: brainwashed ideologues who work for Heritage or Cato or Koch or other billionaires. Parachuted into DC to function as apparatchiks. Dangerous for America and DC. And soft-minded at best. Let’s be honest— no one who understands how the world works and is not a billionaire would ever work for a Republican elitist org like Heritage or Cato.

Vote for DC Republicans at your peril. There’s a reason why Democrats preside over the majority of vibrant creative urban economies in America.

Well thanks! Don't think I will but happy to contribute to anyone who plans to actually do something about crime. Why so many highly educated voters here have such low expectations of our Council/mayor when it comes to protecting the public (kids, no less) is beyond me.

I voted for William's multiple times based on "research". I am growing weary of my Councilmember and will research any candidate opposing her. I am not a Bowser fan or many of the at -large, have researched. You and I both know there are very few candidates with an R and of those zero currently have a chance to win. I do check them off to send a message that people in this city seek an alternative. If the races were closer, I would do far more research. I sense a desire for change in our monolithic political scene and may event get more involved at the ANC level, and also in people campaigns. Frankly, I think you have to be very brave to identify as an R at all in this city and it is career and social suicide in some cases. I would guess there are more Rs or centrists than we know masquerading as Ds and Is. That'swhy Tony got my vote. IN no way does he compare to the corrupt Mayor or loony council. He was a decent doer, not without detractors, but who overall ignited the DC renaissance. I will always look for those candidates with a D who are not beholden to corruption and /or San Francisco policies. You can pick apart what I say - I am.simply encouraging people to consider that you dont HAVE to vote for the status quo. And look at the status quo - our policing is failing. Shots through school windows in prosperous DC of 2019? C'mon.

What I've started to do is vote for anyone with an R next to their name, followed by an Independent (they can be dicey though, so I do more research there). If a D like Tony William's were ever to show up again they would get my full support, but that's been my strategy to date. I think if a R ever won it would send such a message. I fully realize that's the mentality that got Trump elected, but I also think municipal and federal politics are different and the idea that DC can only be and air democratic party voices is obnoxious and dangerous in it's own right. And yes, I would hold an R accountable.

Look I get that it's easy to make fun of all the local politicians but what we have here isn't that much different than any other city. You either have 1) a bunch of corrupt crooks who could care less about the community and just skate through without doing much damage so they can get re-elected or 2) clueless do-gooders who get into the position to actually help and are likely overwhelmed by the corrupt crooks.
