I've been on dozens of girls weekends and this has never happened. Not even close, and not even when we were single. So you (and others, it sounds like) have a twisted notion of what a girls weekend is. I don't care, since your lack of desire to go away doesn't affect me remotely, I just think people like you who think that a single experience that you had must equal the same experiences that everyone else has are wildly myopic.

NP - My husband and I didn’t get away alone for a good 10-12 years when our children were young and we didn’t live near any family. All of our sitters were too young to handle a long weekend and we did not want to have someone new. I’m sure we would have loved to get away and just be adults but we were happy. We definitely did not need to get away to have sex but as I have found since then a nice resort really increases my desire and energy.

I just don't get this for 10-12 years... Even if you don't live near family - are you talking like they all live in Australia? Otherwise, is it not possible for any of them to travel to your kids or your kids to travel to them? Or do you all never see each other, ever? And all of your sitters were too young...if you wanted to get away you could have found an older sitter. Maybe you just don't care about getting away, and that's fine. I have no beef with you doing things your way. I just don't get the people who complain about it and act like the rest of us have family nearby (I don't) or have a bevy of older sitters at our beck and call (I don't). So, not trying to dog you, PP, just shocked that in 10-12 years you never got away.

Yes and no. I don't love two nights away but I actually love one night away with friends. I'm a bit of an introvert so I'm good with partying it up with friends for that one night, but the next day I need to go home to recharge.

A friend of mine told me that guys like to hit on girls weekend women because the women are there to have fun and there won’t be any dating involved. It’s one night of fun and maybe sex and that’s it. It does sound like your friends at least had fun and maybe more.

I don't have a group that does this regularly but I would love to. Once a year would be more than enough for me, and I want the time away w/ my husband, and with my whole family also.

Yes! My group of college girlfriends usually gets together 3-4 times a year and then I'll do other trips either with my best friend or other friends. I love them. I'm not just a wife and a mother, but also a friend. And a daughter, etc... I work full-time and we generally spend our weekends as family time, but sometimes one of us will do something else, either with or without the kids. We all love each other and are very happy. I guess I'm lucky.

I am long-divorced but when I was married I was thrilled when the ex-wife went away. The house was cleaner and quieter.

I’d love to do one but have never had a group of friends like that.

Not awful and I have no desire for girls’ weekends.
