We have a wooded side yard outside of our fenced back yard for our dogs. Our new neighbor also has a fenced back yard. But they turn their 3 dogs loose to run into our side yard and poop.

Every time they play dumb- like oh no I can’t believe the got out again. They are supposed to stand right by me while I load the car.

So far we have just caught the dogs and returned them because it is difficult to spot the poop in the woods. It is so frustrating. I am thinking of hooking up one of those motion activated sprinklers.

Consider landscaping along the sidewalk with shrubs to create a barrier.

Return the poop to them when they have guests.

We used to live on a corner lot and many people thought it was the community dog crap lot. We used to keep our windows open a lot and whenever I'd see someone letting their dog start to squat, I'd blow a whistle I kept near the window. That'd help the dog to "reconsider" pooping.

As annoying as it is, I'd take the poop back over and knock on their door every single time. Make it as inconvenient for them as possible, but with a smile on your face. If I saw them with the dog and the dog was pooping, I'd take a bag out and say, "Do you need a bag? I noticed that you haven't had a bag with you the last few times Fido pooped and the poop wasn't cleaned up."

Your best bet is to use the leash law against them. Film the dogs off leash. Call animal control the moment you see them in your yard.

This is op - trust me, I fantasize about doing exactly that but don’t think that would help!! We live in a pretty high end subdivision. I don’t want to stereotype but the mom is an anesthesiologist and they downsized from a very expensive home to this which is still expensive by most standards - I can’t help but think they are just entitled ass holes who think they are better than everyone.

Do they have guests? I do think that having poop smeared on their mat and step would have an effect, especially when others will see it.

It’s not breaking laws so I’d just do it. Whatever they could claim (littering? Vandalism?) they’ve already done to you first, so no judge would care about it. Clean hands rule and all that.

Use a plastic lid from salad or something, and just smear it on their step and mat and take back the lid to the trash. You’re just returning their poop. I would do it every single time.

No doubt there are leash laws where you live—report them to Animal Control.

Start out polite but firm. Tell them you prefer not to have their dogs poop on your lawn, that the dogs should poop in their own yard. Point out that you have a little kid and don’t want to be stepping barefoot where dogs poop. That’s how normal, civilized people operate. And leaving the poop there is just a million times even more heinous.

Take a picture of the dog pooping and put it on holiday cards that you send the neighbors.
