I don't know the specifics here. But, in principle, if a particular student or family is creating much trouble and harming the learning environment at any given private school, can't they just be counselled out, and the earlier the better?

That helps the school, the other students and even the student/ family in question, so they have time to find another school and prevent college admissions dissapointments.

I would agree if she hadn't applied to only the very top schools in the country. She admits (through the litigation) that she expected to rely on/benefit from affirmative action. Also, she wasn't rejected everywhere -- The appeals court decision says something about her being rejected or waitlisted or withdrawing applications from all the schools she applied to (but I haven't read the whole thing, so I don't know which schools).

Schools like Sidwell want the students to succeed -- I don't think they want to lie to get kids into schools where they can't succeed. If they gave her "terrible" recommendations, which I doubt, it is entirely plausible that she deserved it.

Agreed. I didn't read everything--which HBCU was she rejected from? What were the 13 schools?

There is some discussion about whether her application to Spelman was submitted (by her) on time.

I still find it hard to believe she was rejected at every school including the HBCU. Something isn't right. Sounds like Sidwell gave terrible recommendations. Glad she is at UPenn now. Also she was a track star at Sidwell and surprised she did not get in anywhere. The whole thing is so fishy.

The District Court granted Sidwell’s Motion for Summary Judgement and awarded their bill of costs ($38K) and all of that was upheld by the appeals court.

So basically the student lost in 2 lower courts. Unlikely that the Supreme Court will take this case. All the adetus are doing at this point is airing dirty laundry which seems to reflect badly on them and Sidwell.

It looks like the upshot of all this was to change a math grade from an A- to an A.

If every family/individual who sues someone/some entity is a low class family/individual, then we have very few high class families/individuals in this country. The US will be a different country. We wouldn't have so many scumbag attorneys. Our country is famous for suing somebody/something at the drop of a hat. Give me an f'ing break. If the counselor's suggested list has one or more sure safeties for the "holistic application" of the girl and the family didn't apply to none of those safeties, then it isn't the fault of the counselors. Calling someone "low class family" simply gives away your own level of "true class."

Class is being used to describe behavior here, not wealth and not race. Trump is a perfect example of a rich, privileged person whose behavior is incredibly low class. He is greedy and entitled, like this family is in this suit.
