NP and gross isn't the word i'd use, but it's frustrating when people think it's just as easy as saying "I think I'll adopt a child now!". It's NOT that easy, PP. Not even close.

I know moving is extreme, but the right neighborhood is key. We have 20 kids on our block from ages 1-13, with 7, 8, 9 being the majority. The kids entertain themselves all the time.

Fellow secondary infertility here- also parent of an extroverted 9 year old! Wish we lived in the same neighborhood.

I wouldn’t move - but I would do sleepaway camp. My guy is spending two weeks with grandparents and doing surf camp- and two weeks of sleepaway in New England. I’m sure he will have a blast and come home confident and happy.

We hosted a play date today with a close friend who is older of three kids ... they love hanging out here bc no younger siblings butting in.

Nothing you can really do with not being able to have another kid. So, just deal with how you can manage his summer of fun. Like fun camps, not boring indoor things. Outdoor social fun camps. Maybe overnight camp too.

We have a social only. We have a cat and a dog and she adores them. But I also have to host playdates all the time or coordinate dates to playground and now pool for the weekends.

I agree with others recommending (1) sleepawsy camp (life changing for me from age 10-15), (2) a local pool (do swim team for maximal social benefit), and (3) moving to a neighborhood where packs of children roam free. I would not move across country to be near older cousins only for this reason.

Just wanted to say that I’m not sure being an only child matters here- I have 3 kids close in age and two are super extroverted and always asking for play dates, etc. They do play nicely together (at times) but they fight just as often (or ignore each other) so it is a crapshoot. I’m sure you have gotten lots of other suggestions but just wanted to say being an only probably has nothing to do with it. It’ has more to do with a kid’s personality IMO. My introverted kid would love more alone time and gets easily annoyed by his siblings...
