Agree with this. Also, finance/accounting manager in a large company might encompass higher level work that a controller in a mid-market firm so titles are not the only parameter. Most accounting groups have a very flat management structure, especially these days. Max out is usually mid-30s. Then it is average raises unless you jump to something where equity is offered, and that is often very speculative.

CPA local firm, 2.5 years experience doing mainly tax work. I’m making $70,000 plus a couple thousand bonus.

I make 135k after 10 years and I got really lucky
I find the story about your friends hard to believe. I was an auditor for 7 years and always looked at payroll rates of the accounting team. Managers/controllers all over 100k unless working at some tiny, tiny nonprofits.

Many accounting works are behind the scene support kind of work. Doesn't mean you are not that great at your job.
Fair to a degree. But, if you are 10+ years and not in management and you are only at the staff/senior level - no, you won’t be getting 100+k because there are a lot of you. If you are going to stay an I/C you would need be an expert in whatever you are doing - technical area, I/C, etc etc.
If you are a SME you won’t be at 60k, it’s because you are a bookkeeper or you haven’t moved past senior.
