NP. I support both. I carry a gun every day, but I have extensive training. If you want to buy a handgun, some level of training should be required.

This is pretty much the gun control fanatics. It doesn't matter what the circumstances are when a nut shoots innocent people. It could be a terrorist - a mentally unstable person - a white supremacist - a left wing nut job - it doesn't matter. Their "go to" narrative is gun control. Enact more laws! Ban certain weapons! Limit ammunition!

My question is - aside from confiscating all guns - handguns, rifles, long guns - all of them - what could have been done to prevent these two crazy people from shooting at this school? What additional laws would have helped?
Since they reportedly broke into one of their parent's gun case and stole the guns - what should have been done to prevent this?

1. Ban automatic/semi-automatic weapons - and stop the deflection by gun nuts on exactly what those terms mean. Nobody needs that kind of firepower for hunting or self protection. That might at least help cut down on mass shootings.
2. Require serious background checks. If you want to buy a device whose only purpose is killing, then you should be willing to be thoroughly investigated to determine if you are a danger to other people. I don’t give a damn if it temporarily inconveniences gun owners.
3. Require that gun owners secure their guns, and implement severe penalties for those who don’t. Parents who don’t adequately secure their guns that are then used by their offspring to kill should be charged with murder.
4. Stop the glorification of guns in our culture. Kids in a movie theater should not be able to ‘play with’ fake automatic weapons in an arcade. That is just sick.
5. Not that the gun nuts really care about this, but start addressing the serious mental health issues that we have in this country, especially with young people.

Highlands Ranch, CO is heavily conservative leaning, Trump won that area by almost 20 points.

"Mental Health" has been a conservative talking point to deflect away from gun control.

No coincidence there.

What are you conservatives actually going to DO about the mental health question?

I'm putting you on the spot. Dealing with mental health is a resource issue. A lot of mentally ill people don't have the financial means to get treatment because their mental illness makes it hard to get or hold down a job. That means someone else, YOU AND I will have to pay for their healthcare. Also, what are you proposing to ensure that mentally ill people can't get their hands on guns?

I won't accept "mental illness" thrown around as chaff with no real intention of doing anything. You might think it can get you off of the hook for gun control but in doing so you put yourselves on the hook for universal healthcare for the mentally ill and on the hook for mental health screenings for gun buyers and gun bans for the mentally ill.

The source also told Denver7 that investigators believe the two suspects spray-painted “F--- society” and “666” on the vehicle of one of the parents and tried to set the vehicle on fire before they left to go to the school. Investigators are looking into whether the suspects were attempting to make the scene look like their actions at the school Tuesday came as the result of them being bullied, the source said.
