This must be regional then. I'm in Southern California- our local Bloomingdales is far and above the local Nordstrom (in the same mall). Bloomingdales is very upscale in comparison. not that Nordstrom is garbage - it's not. It's just not on par with Bloomingdales....where I am.

I also remember Hecht's, which was better than Macy's.


I grew up in Richmond and remember when Hechts bought all of the Miller & Rhodes and Thalheimers in town. 95% of my childhood wardrobe came from those 3 stores. I think I was in MS or HS before I set foot in the “middle” part of the mall - my mom only shopped the department stores.
