If I'm away on a trip I don't want to spend my time worrying about what's going on at home. If it's an emergency, sure, but otherwise, I'd pick someone else to vent to. I mean, there's nothing he can do about it while he's gone, so what's the point.

Tell him how hard it was once he's back, and then plan ahead next time.
