+1. Also went to HS in the 80s (late 80s), and b/w Madonna and 50's nostalgia, there was a lot of this look going on. What would make it look 80s rather than 50s is a lot of colored eyeshadow, and really big hair. Agree with others that Madonna's lace gloves would rock it.
I wore a sea foam blue satin dress to prom -- puff sleeves and high-low hem. So cheap satin was definitely happening, as was a lot of lace and tulle type stuff.

OP, people don't dress up quite this much for the Legwarmers show. Just put on a few accessories and call it a day.

I don't think anyone is saying this dress could never ever have been worn in the 80s. But it doesn't scream 80s. If OP wants to be a "very subtle 80s if you know all the references" then she's fine.

Yep, totally agree. If you really want to do this right, OP, get some white lace leggings, short white boots or white stilettos, and wear an oversized colorful jacket like this.

I do take LIFE this seriously but also was just trying to answer OP's question, which was: does this dress look like it's from the 80s. Now some of us are having fun talking about what we actually wore in the 80s.

If the question was: Would you spit in my face if I wore this dress to an 80s party? The answer would obviously be no.

No, but we were asked if it looks 80's. It doesn't.

But who would even buy this dress for $150 to wear to a cover band playing 80's songs? You are going to be crushed and people will be spilling drinks on you. I know, I've been to one of their concerts. It's a lot of fun, but I wouldn't spend that much on a dress for one of their concerts.
