Is it over the public health recommendations? Yes? Is it a lot? In general, I think people that drink/normal drinking culture in America would say no.

Is it a problem? Maybe. I had a drinking problem and bringing home Prosecco to celebrate something with the anticipation that my spouse wouldn't drink that much so I could finish the bottle would totally be something I'd do.

Until you find hidden empty big bottles of vodka you are fine.

Sometimes after the party has emptied out I like to crank up Streisand and finish up whatever bottles my wife hasn’t clobbered

If he had four+ drinks by himself in a short amount of time, it's not great. I'd look at whether it's part of a larger pattern or was a one-off.

It's natural that those of us who drink want to normalize it, but really there's nothing healthy about drinking a whole bottle of bubbly by yourself. I recently had to tell my husband that I know he is stressed but he needs to seriously think about his drinking, which our kids see. Some day they will be in health class learning about binge drinking and thinking, well my dad regularly has 3 to 5 drinks a night . . . He's scaled back a little since then.

But like I said, if this isn't his norm then I wouldn't stress about it.

Bottle of Prosecco? He probably watched Tik Toks and don’t be surprised if a bunch of Amazon boxes show up soon.

My mom has breast cancer, and she drank 2-3 glasses of wine for decades. She was always thin, ate very healthy, physically fit, and great labs. And now she's dying of breast cancer. Her cancer wasn't genetically predisposed, so I'm blaming the wine habit.

Could just as easily have been carcinogens in the environment. Without more, blaming the wine feels like a modern version of thinking God afflicts people for their sinful behavior.

Perhaps. But I don't smoke because I know it can cause cancer. And I similarly don't drink 2 glasses of wine each night because I know it could cause cancer...and per the data, breast cancer specifically. This is based on science; it's a known link that I can proactively minimize.

PP, people on these forums don't want to know about the most recent studies -- multiple ones -- that now are saying alcohol in any amount is bad for one's health. And any type is bad. The whole "red wine is good for you in moderation" thing is a myth, and so on. But you're not going to get anything but scorn here, from those who insist that everything can be fatal and they don't care to try to minimize potential, known risks. And despite what one jerk said above, you're not smug; you're smart.

Huh? Most Prosecco is around 11% ABV, while Champagne tends to be in the 11.5-12.5% ABV range, so just a tick higher. 11% is nearly double your average beer.
