Not the PP, but most colleges with research positions take trips with those professors on breaks. My son did multiple ones, even as an undergrad. You usually pay for the airfare, but everything else is paid for by the school. New Mexico was his favorite.

Well the school was U of Alabama - Huntsville. After visiting she realized she wanted a much more diverse school. Ended up with another with good merit. Brought it down to 20K. We said we would pay it, but she had to earn spending money and and global experiences on her own. She works part time during school and is in the co-op program. I think she made the right choice. Still not going to hand her money for a fun trip though. It amazes me how many parents do.
