Op here. My wife did not work out until our child turned 1. The weight just fell off. I don't think she works out to stay thin necessarily. She has actually gained a bit of weight since working out regularly.

Newsflash: not all thin people work out. I know tons of moms who are thin and don't work out regularly. The control what they eat.
