I think it is less common now than it used to be, but I actually agree I think it’s better for young girls to get to see a variety of real adult female bodies than only get airbrushed perfection of 20-something models. That said, no MCPS school would ever take kids swimming. I assumed it had to be a private school.

I also have trouble believing the vast majority of 3rd graders were willing to shower nude with classmates instead of staying in suits.

I sense that you are being sarcastic?
But I think that if anything it's better that these young girls see women with ordinary bodies be comfortable in their own skin as opposed to swimsuit model type bodies. Like it or not, it's almost impossible these days to prevent children from seeing nearly naked bodies on TV and on magazine covers at the grocery store.
I can't see how innocent non-sexual nudity in a locker room is harming them?
Part of raising kids who are protected against sexual abuse is raising kids who know what healthy boundaries are like. As a teacher, obviously it's wrong for me to groom students, and I'd never do it, but it's also wrong for me to do things that someone who was grooming students would do, even if I do it for "innocent" purposes. So, if I normalize taking of my clothes in front of students, it makes my students a little less likely to tell someone when another teacher, with less innocent motivation takes off their clothes. Similarly, I know that I could have a kid alone with me in my classroom without abusing them, but if I do that, it makes it less likely that another teacher asking them into their classroom will raise alarm bells.
So, no. I don't think kids will be harmed by seeing me naked, but they can be potentially harmed if boundaries aren't clear.

OP here.
I have no idea what makes you think that my thread is fake in any way? I don't have the time in my day for stupid wastes of time!!!

OP here.
We don't live in DC, We are in the US, however. Maybe things are more conservative where you are? I don't see there being any issues with this being the US.
What country are you from OP?!?
This is a HUGE issue and exceptionally poor judgement by the female adults on the trip, but especially the teacher.

NP here, it's usually used to describe a private school where the majority of students are on vouchers.

Anonymous wrote:I teach in MCPS. Let's say we had a field trip that involved swimming. It doesn't happen, but let's say it did. First of all, the chances that I'd be in a bathing suit at all are slim to none. If I was in a bathing suit, I'd have a modest cover up over it and wouldn't get in the pool as long as lifeguards were present. Even without lifeguards present I'd be better off out of the pool to be able to scan the whole pool.
But let's say for argument's sake that I did get in the pool. When I would get out of the pool I would be immediately covered in a towel and then put my cover up back on as soon as I wasn't soaking wet anymore. If I was in the locker room, I'd tell all the kids to rinse off while wearing their bathing suits. I'd stand in an area of the locker room where I could hear everything that was going on, but wouldn't be looking directly at the kids changing. I would remind parent volunteers to make sure they change in an individual stall and definitely would stop them from showering in the nude. I would be comfortable overseeing none of this, considering any amount of nudity while on the job is inappropriate in my eyes. So therefore a pool field trip would not be something I would agree to attend and oversee. But for argument's sake, this is how I would handle it. I would also make sure I wasn't the only school employee in the locker room.
For the record, I'm not a prude at all. I'm fine with nudity. But not on a school trip. There is no place for that on a school trip. So in my eyes there were several adults there that day that made really poor choices, including OP. And I'd seriously question the teacher's judgement that she thought showering nude in front of children she teaches is acceptable in any way. And that she took the parent volunteer's word that it was fine. What the hell was she thinking?

No idea. Never heard of such a thing around here.
We call them charters.
