The issue is that the sites often seem to be either guessing, or mixing people up, or both - common name or not. That is incorrect information. Also, the sites allude to the fact that someone is a criminal. when they are not - so yeah, they are definitely opening themselves up to a lawsuit or two, or thousands.


+1 And if you read earlier posts in this thread-the site often threatens people that they have "negative reputation information" on their profile and try to encourage them to pay $ to rid their profile of this info, when no negative information exists.

I emailed MyLife asking them to take down certain information (salary and political affiliation). I told them they had a week to take it down otherwise my lawyer would contact them. My entire profile was taken down the next day.

I didn't threaten legal action, and they still took my info down pretty quickly. That said, I realized there were like 8 other websites that had similar information up there. They proliferate like rats.

Yup. The info isn't quality controlled and they can mix up people with similar names/addresses easily and they do a hard sell to get you to pay recurring fees. Scam city.

Apparently, if you word you e mail to them in a manner that suggests legal action they will remove your information IMMEDIATELY.

OMG! I haven't visited DCUM all day, and right before I did, I had been searching how to remove all my information from MyLife and whether there was any basis for a lawsuit given that they are reporting incorrect and harmful information about me. Coincidence??

I don't get it either. I always tell people computers are prone to mistakes.
