That was done without any waivers. Why MCPS didn't do the same thing.. Incompetence is my guess.

As the parent of a HS student I am really unhappy about the early dismissal. Now all of these HS students are going to get out on the road while they are still snow covered. At this point they should have just gone with regular dismissal when the snow would have stopped and the roads could be cleared. This is a mess now.

Nope, MCPS is entirely to blame on this one. Howard County manages to make the schedule work, including a full week for spring break, under the same rules. Why cant' MCPS pull it off?

Note that in spring last yea, SB729 was passed, allowing schools to extend the calendar up to 5 days past 6/15 without a waiver. HoCo took advantage of this, MCPS did not.

I am SO grateful it is not my job to have to make the decisions about whether to close, open late, dismiss early, etc.
I agree with the PP who said they would have closed school today if they already weren't running a deficit. I love having school start after Labor Day, but I have a flexible schedule so these closings and delays don't affect me as much. I feel for all the working parents without good last-minute coverage.

Damn. I was up until 3;30am last night catching up on work due to this week's previous closings/early dismissals/late openings. I think DW and I will have to trade off on hanging out with our kids this weekend so the other one can focus on getting some work done.

The roads are WAY worse today than they were on Wednesday. This would be a "dusting" if it were 30 degrees out. But it's not.
