For those currently in McLean on the boys side, what was their experience with ECNL? The additional travel/competition? Considering it for dear son as one of the neighboring clubs.

Are you saying the Arlington 2007 team is not as strong as the 2008 team?

^^ Arlington DA is having an ID session for 2008s this afternoon at Williamsburg MS. This gives an idea of the 08 Red player pool that will compose the U12 team playing CCL1 next year.

Agree with PP that it would also be a way to make a case for a great 08 play-up next year to get experience in full U13 DA, as 07s on average not as strong as 08s.

All of this better then NCSL.

If you have a talented/motivated 08 player they may be best served by playing on an 07 ECNL or DA team next year.

The level of training and competition in these leagues far exceeds NCSL/CCL not to mention they would be playing up a year.

FWIW, this is not what people have reported in this thread about Mclean boys. It has been said on this thread that the girls did not face strong competition in the un-sorted division-less ages. However, this was not the case for the McLean boys. NCSL doesn't publish records for U9 and U10 but in a two-second search of NCSL I see that McLean's top U11 team was 2-6-1, their second team must be in another league, their third team was 2-6-1, and their fourth team was 0-9-0. Their U12s did a lot better and seem, well, appropriately placed: Top team was 6-2-1 in Division 2 of NCSL. The third team had the same record but in Division 5. The fourth team was 4-4-1 in Division 6.

NCSL deserves credit for its new pro/rel division system, which has improved competitiveness. McLean U12 Gold and U12 Silver were in the same division, second to the bottom as U11s. The Gold team finished second and was promoted to a more competitive division, which I think helped spur improvement in their play.

Arlington Red 2008? Have a DD on that team. It is very strong top to bottom and one of the best 2008 teams in this area. Would be surprised if a girl playing on a 2008 NCSL team would come in and assume a starting role immediately.

However, when the teams go from U12 to U13 the roster size will increase due to going from 9 vs. 9 to 11 vs. 11 so even if all the current ASA Red players move to the DA team there will still be opportunities for some new additions.

If she is good enough to start on that team then I would assume she would make the DA for sure. I think go now. She shouldn't be playing NCSL if she can start for Arlington Red.
