Maybe because these places, including Bretton woods where all of the imf gets a cheap rate, have been open successfully with precautions offering tennis lessons, swim lessons, golf lessons, bowling, lunch and more during the shutdown. So yeah, I wish my kids could go, can’t find a decent swim lesson anywhere!

OP posted in 2019 before the pandemic.

We are in upper NW and one year the kids had to write a short story about a happy memory. One kid wrote about a holiday memory that included dinner at “the club.” I am not from a country club background did a total double take because I thought he was saying they went to a nightclub for dinner with his grandparents. I was so confused.

Bragging = talking about things you don't have and are jealous about. Didn't read the thread, not interested after I realized that OP believes in the above definition. Unnecessary drama.

It’s Bethesda you are going to find that as part of some of the discussions from youngsters around here. It’s not going to be any different in any other well off neighborhood in an educated area. Just deal or move.

OP, you are misconstruing kids talking about their main social outlet right now as bragging.

We get a seasonal membership to a club near our vacation home for the activities and summer camps. It’s a much less elitist place than our kids’ dc private.

One of the DCs swims at one of the big clubs but we aren’t members. His club sport had to purchase use of their facilities because it’s been the only facilities allowed to open in MoCo. Kids need some reason to get out and have a life.

Eh. We belonged to country clubs when I was a kid, as did many of our friends. One was always “the Club” and the other called by name. They were safe places die us to go after school and long summer days. Kids who didn’t belong said we were bragging when, really, we were just kids talking about our plans just like they talked about theirs. Who has the issue here, you or your kids?

Assholes start young.

The only clubs even worth bragging about are Chevy, Columbia and Congressional. We live in Bethesda with kids at public schools and only know a handful of families that belong to country clubs, and only two belong to "prestigious" ones.
