But you are attending a private function, not joining the club so I don’t see why it would be a concern. Are you thinking your spouse would be treated differently by the staff or something?
No its not. It's a reflection of their racist past. Read some history on the clubs and neighborhoods in the area please...Chevy Chase was created to keep Blacks and also Jews OUT. Why any black person would want to live there today is beyond me. Read up on Francis G. Newlands who viewed black people as a race of children.

You are so ignorant to think this was unique to these specific neighborhoods and that the past continues today. Try reading this:

Seems based on your logic "why would any black person want to live there today" applies across the city.

Kavanaugh belongs to Columbia not Chevy. Columbia is heavily Catholic. Chevy is more mixed these days, kind of a little sampler of each of the "exotics" (e.g., jewish, black, asian, etc... and YYES, I say this in jest/sarcastically). We do know a few folks of color who are members (men and women). Most are married to a white person. Its very conservative and preppy but not pure white anymore.
The only minorities I know there are mixed couples and very conservative think pro-Kavanugh, pro-Cheney, Bush, and pro-Trump. And you do realize some minorities can also be pretty racist especially if they’re trying to climb the social ladder they really try to distance themseld from certain other minorities.
Some of us are already at the top of the ladder so there is no where else to climb. Also, we don't distance ourselves because of race, we distance ourselves because of class. If I do not have anything in common with lower class people, then why would I associate with them? I don't see UMC whites getting ostracize for not associating with trailer park white folks. Minorities don't all come in stereotypical packages and we are not monolithic. It is perfectly okay for us think, live, socialize, and enjoy our lives outside of the stereotypical box. Also, just because we belong to a country club doesn't mean that we are pro-Trump. I'm not a fan of Trump or Kavanugh. I am also a liberal who enjoys the company of being around other UMC people like myself. Not all liberals or minorities are the same. I hate the broad brushes that people paint on this forum.

Kavanagh definitely belongs to Chevy. He may belong to Columbia too.
No wonder he was deeply in debt. Those membership fees are no joke.
I bet his parents paid the fees. That's often the case with folks who grew up around here and whose parents were members.
Yes, parents and in-laws. He testified to that. NO surprise. He also had a $150K lump sum settlement in 2015 that all federal judges received for due back wages owed. This thread isn't about Kavanaugh. It's about racism at Chevy Chase, which, by the way, stopped in 1976, but by all means go and try to find it if being negative is your life's work.
Anonymous wrote:I mean of course it's still racist but I'm sure they have some black people and jews now. It's 2018. An Old might hand your wife an empty glass but no one will say anything out loud.
The whole neighborhood is deeply and structurally racist. That was the point of the neighborhood. It's its raison d'etre. Not that long ago! The Old at the wedding will remember. But a lot of the people who live there are perfectly nice.

Kavanaugh does not belong to Columbia Country Club. Before Chevy, he belonged to Congressional.

We’ve been to several events @ CC and everyone is treated with respect and warmth. I wouldn’t skip an event there that would be irrational and ridiculous.
Pres Obama chose to live in ultrawhite Kalorama, so not sure his example is terribly relevant to OP.
Right. He should be living in a manse in PG , right?
