hot woman don't wear shorts. how often do you see a female celebrity coming from the gym in shorts? i googled celebrity workout gear and literally one pic on the first page of images of someone in shorts. and these are some of the most beautiful women out there.

All of the reasons above, with heavy emphasis on comfort for all activities when your thighs rub together, you're touching communal machinery / mats, and you're walking home without changing.

It's a cliche to mock the $100 yoga pants, but the reality is that there are a number of brands out there designed for hot yoga. The fabric wicks and cools, as well as provides necessary friction for things like arm balances. These leggings are perfect for general gym activity, and I never feel overheated in them.

I played sports in high school and college. I LIKE the feeling of the capri yoga pants. I don't like being cold in the winter, I don't like chafing in the summer, I don't get over heated. I don't like my legs on equipment other people use (and leaving my sweat there). I don't actually care if you know what kind of underwear I'm wearing. Why are you analyzing my a$$ anyway? Please, get back to paying attention to your cardio while I do my squats and you can just judge in peace.

I wear shorts in summer (nike running shorts) and tights/leggings in winter. Too cold to walk from the gym back home or to the car in shorts, plus I might need to do something outdoors on teh way.

16:00 - I don't agree with most of your post, but I think the first part may have some merit. The people I know who played sports as a kid/teen tend to wear shorts for workouts because that's what they wore when they first started playing.
The folks who came to fitness later in life seem more likely to wear capris. I ran cross country and track, so I'll always run in running shorts, not capris or anything else. (unless it's below 40, and then the running tights come out.)

I think a lot of women are self-conscious about their legs, too. If they're pale or veiny or jiggly, leggings cover that up.

Please get over yourself. Athletes come in all shapes and sizes, and some of us prefer leggings (capri or full length) for comfort, for whatever reason, and are perfectly capable of buying ones that are not transparent. Your lousy attitude is the reason many people feel intimidated by the gym.

And your butt usually distorts the print. I’m not even big but I won’t wear printed tights because it drives me nuts when on myself and other people the print gets stretched out by the booty, LOL. Defeats the purpose of trying to appear thinner even if you’re not s large person!

They are comfortable. Period. Even in summer. I don't get too hot.

I'm with you, OP. I hate most leggings because I'm tall with a long rise, so it's hard to find leggings that don't ride down on me. I hate having to pull them up every 5 minutes. I don't have the same problem with normal yoga pants or shorts.

I do wear leggings to run in cold weather, and it's a struggle to find ones I like that fit right. So I'm always a little surprised that so many women wear leggings for various activities.

Because yoga pants are the all weather all purpose pant. They look cute, they get in the way of nothing, you can’t see up them, Chubb rub is impossible, and I like to do handstands in the gym.
