My son got into William and Mary because he was an Eagle Scout.
LOL. My DS got into W&M and wasn't an Eagle Scout.! As for Penn State, it is a NUMBERS game. A GPA and SAT matrix.

Yeah. That's not true. Clearly you don't know much about Eagle Scout. Not only did it get one of my kids into a great college, but it was what got him a fantastic job after graduation. The hiring manager was also Eagle. He flat out told my son his Eagle Scout was the tie breaker. I wish my other boys had stayed with it.
B.S. -- name the "great college" being an Eagle Scout got your kid into or it didn't happen.
URM status, grades, SAT all vastly more important.

If I found that out about someone who was a recent grad who was applying for a job with me, I would consider that as a "pro" to hiring them.
We're talking about college admissions, not applying for jobs. Maybe a different thread?

That's a total straw man argument -- no one said those things were less important. There are plenty of schools that can fill their classes with very well qualified applicants from the standpoint of grades and test scores many times over. Clearly being an URM is a "hook." The question is, all other things being equal, is being an Eagle Scout an advantage over other similarly situated people. The answer is yes. Obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout takes long-term commitment that is not required for the vast majority of extracurricular activities. It shows the ability to stick with something and follow through.
