OP here. Well it turns out someone did call her out on it right on Facebook. Pretty entertaining lol. I imagine she may be hoping for merit aid elsewhere, but I don't see how she could get away with that. And yes, they can easily afford full pay considering they have several homes all over the country/world.

I think the problem is that when people are posting their business on Facebook, they aren't keeping it personal -- they are deliberately making it public.

She may have misunderstood, misspoken, or may be trying to game the system and cry not enough FA if she gets in somewhere she’d rather go...but regardless, it’s not your concern. She will have to answer to both her child’s high school and the college.
