Does anyone remember the day a book publisher sponsored a free lobster meal at this restaurant? I think it was the 80s - it was a publicity thing for newly published book on the Russian double spy who got away by climbing out of a bathroom window (or through the back door?) at this restaurant and shook off his handler. A friend and I were poor college students and happily went for the free meal which included a nice dessert. Haha, the meal was delicious, and the place was full of starving students - not exactly the intended audience of the publisher, I'm sure. But a belated thank you to the publisher for a nice, well remembered meal that still makes me chuckle!

Yes, this exactly. It is too hard to do business there...which has created a negative feedback loop.

Grew up in the 80s...used to cruise down M St. with a rich buddy who owned a Trans Am with T-tops...was the place to be. I agree it is dead now. Great memories from the 80s...

I was an au pair here back in the early 90's. Georgetown was the place to hang out. I remember being down there in a bar right on the corner of Wisconsin/M when the Redskins won the superbowl in 1992.
The bars down there used to be full of Marines from 8th/I ...such fond memories I have of my youth.

Remember LNS, and the crowds at George, Mason Inn, and Smith Point? I wonder where the young iterations of those kids go now, since all of those places are shuttered.

U St, H Street, Nats Park, Wharf, Adams Morgan etc.
