Commonsensemedia.org is great for getting a sense of age-appropriateness of certain movies. The site also has lots of lists of recommended movies.

We love the Pippi Longstocking movies (we have the box with all four). My DD also loved Pollyanna, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Matilda, the older version of Annie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (both versions), Sound of Music (although she found the Nazi bits scary), Bedknobs and Broomsticks (also with scary parts)

Other live action Christmas films that are good for these ages are a couple of relatively obscure ones from the ‘80s/‘90s: Prancer & Santa Claus: The Movie.
As I’ said, though, that are relatively obscure so idk where/if they are available today.

Also, though I obviously haven’t seen it & it would require shelling out the money for movie theater tickets, a live action version of the Nutcracker is coming out soon. That may be a bit much for the younger one,though; I’d check Common Sense Media &/or talk to some other parents who have seen it with their young kids before taking them.

Back to the Future was insanely popular among my peers when we were 7-8. I actually got so sick of it because it was shown at almost every party I went to.
