Answer - no, of course not. And its not about numbers of films its about talent and variety, of which MS has boat loads and of which KK has exactly zero.

Cate Blanchett is not a bad back up MS though, I agree with whoever voted her into this.

I pulled up an article about a film that is currently playing at the festivals that they predict she will be nominated for this year.

I don't think she has any post-Tom baggage left

Actually underrated because she’s done so many weird indie films, but Nicole Kidman’s got range. I think being Mrs (and ex) Tom Cruise stalled her career. She’s also done theatre, including recently winning the evening standard Best Actress award for London Theatre where she played a research scientist.

Blanchett was really good in Bandits with Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thorton

Not to be harsh, but Michelle Williams is pretty forgettable. I doubt the average person could name one movie she has been in.

I think Keira would have to work on her accents first....she never changes her voice. Even while playing a Russian in Anna Karenina she spoke with her Brit voice.

IMDB has Meryl as actress in 83 movies; Cate Blanchett as actress in 68 movies. Meryl is 20 years older than Cate. Plenty of time for Cate to catch up.

Cate also does a ton of theater--she regularly performs with the Sydney Theater Company (and was an artistic director there for many years), as well as other theaters. I've seen her in A Streetcar Named Desire and Uncle Vanya, and she's great.

I think Meryl Streep is, hands-down, the best living actress and the best of her generation, but this post made me think about what I've seen Blanchett in: Elizabeth, An Ideal Husband, The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Lord of the Rings series, The Life Aquatic, The Aviator, Notes on a Scandal, Blue Jasmine, The Monuments Men, Carol, and Ocean's Eight. A pretty good range, really, and she's 49, so still time for some more good roles a la Streep.

MS can act. KK just juts out her chin.

No but even is she did, we’ll see her as Nicole Kidman’s MIL in season 2 of Big Little Lies. Add a Laura Dern and Reese Witherspoon and there’s some fine acting.
