DP but the definition of travel soccer is not whether you have a paid coach. There are many volunteer coaches currently coaching highly competitive teams with more experience and even licenses than those of what you may consider "travel" soccer. The kids are still playing at higher level then rec, are likely developing, learning and competing. They are obviously in a travel competition league.
$600 is possible. Cougars Youth Club does travel for $500, but it doesn't include tournament fees:

This is great. It is nice to see a program that is not a money grab. Obviously, their teams are not elite level, but similar level travel teams are charging 3-4 times as much in our area.
It's a good club. My kid used to play there, had a good coach and his team was very competitive with half of the team playing up. Although they were in ODSL they competed against bigger club's top teams in tournaments and futsal and did very well. For us it was the right fit at the time. Others should really consider it as an entry point to travel at a much more affordable price.

Wrong. They’re licensed coaches, but they volunteer to help keep prices low. However, since you’re so intent on defining things, paying thousands for a “professional” coach who makes your kid’s team park the bus and play long ball is what shouldn’t be considered soccer, let alone travel soccer.

Didn't McLean bring in Coerver to run their pre-travel program? Could the $600 be for that program and not just regular "rec"?
That would make sense on some level at least. $600 for straight up rec is just ludicrous.
U8 pre-travel Jrs is NOT $600 ... not even close. That shake-down was outsourced to Coerver and runs 1-2K a year range, easy. It's packed too, think 40 x 1-2K a player.
Now that I think of it, it is actually 80+ x $1-2K if you count both boys and girls.

It's not $600. I paid just over 100 for my 5 yo and something like $170 maybe for my 7 yo last spring. We considered their pre-travel program for 8yo, but that is significantly more expensive, something like $1500 maybe (can't remember) since it involves their professional coaches 3x/week.
