I actually disagree that mean girls become mean adults. My experience has been that the mean girls mellow out, and the wannabes as girls try to be queen bees as adults.

Yes, girls are mean to the boys too.

One of mine was bullied in 6th grade when the queen bee girls decided they liked all his friends and started cutting him out.

The boys were great when the girls were not around, but would leave him out when the girls told them to.


My 6th grade son came home upset earlier this week because a girl in his class called him stupid in front of friends. He told me she is relentless in teasing other kids. I was surprised because I know the girl and thought she was generally nice. Son tells me it is an act! I told him that she is not a bad person and he should not take it personally when she teases him. Not sure what else to say as he doesn't seem to have any other social issues in school.

He cries and says he wishes he weren't gay and I have major guilt because I tell him I'm proud of him, he did nothing wrong but still tell him to keep it to himself for right now - mostly for his safety


...and unfortunately, my son has mentioned hearing some general homophobic remarks (not directed at him) in 6th grade that he reported the principal as part of a larger complaint. It bummed me out that he was hearing already this cr*p from kids this young.

Yep! My son had an OK 7th grade, a terrible 8th grade, then things got better in 9th. They start growing up.


My son was bullied as the new kid in elementary private school—he was cool and smart, and apparently he upset the existing pecking order. Middle school was great. There were some nasty boys in high school, though, too much brand new testosterone I guess.

About mid way through 5th grade to 7th were the worst. Eighth grade and beyond was a breeze.

We are seeing the same thing described in the post about homecoming - boys & girls all jockeying to be in the ‘cool group’ pre-parties, and certain overbearing moms trying to push their kids into certain groups.
